Create Store Social Media Posts with Canva Magic Write

Tool:Canva
AI Feature:Magic Write
Time:10-15 minutes
Difficulty:Beginner

What This Does

Canva's Magic Write generates post captions and Canva's design tools create branded graphics — so you can produce a week of social media content for your store's local page in 15 minutes instead of never.

Before You Start

  • You have a free Canva account (canva.com — free plan includes Magic Write)
  • You have basic info about your store's current promotions or seasonal highlights
  • You have your store's brand colors or a logo (optional but helpful)

Steps

1. Start a Social Media Post Design

In Canva, click Create a design → search for "Instagram Post" or "Facebook Post." Choose a template that fits your store's vibe (modern, warm, discount-forward, etc.). There are hundreds of retail-ready templates.

2. Customize the Visual

Replace the template's placeholder image with a photo of your store or merchandise (take a quick phone photo). Update the colors to your store's palette using the color selector. Add your store name to the design.

3. Use Magic Write for the Caption

Click anywhere on the text layer in your design, or open Magic Write from the left sidebar (look for the purple star icon). Type a prompt like:

  • "Write an Instagram caption for a spring home décor sale this weekend. Friendly, upbeat tone. 50 words max. Include a call to action."
  • "Write a Facebook post about new arrivals in our kitchen section. Store name: [name]. Warm, conversational tone."

4. Copy the Caption

Magic Write generates 2–3 caption options. Copy the one you like best. Paste it into your social media platform (Google Business Profile, Facebook, Instagram) when you post the image.

5. Batch Create for the Week

Repeat for 3–4 posts covering different content: a promotion, a product spotlight, a "behind the scenes" (your team at work), and a community/local message. Four posts in 15–20 minutes total.

Real Example

Scenario: Home goods specialty store. Needs social content for the week of a spring sale launch.

What you type into Magic Write: "Write a Facebook caption for our Spring Into Savings sale this Saturday only. 20% off all outdoor and patio items. Store: [name]. Friendly, not salesy."

What you get: "Spring is here and your patio is waiting! 🌿 This Saturday only, everything in our outdoor and patio section is 20% off. Stop in, say hi, and find your perfect piece for the season. See you Saturday at [store name]!"

Copy, paste, post. Done.

Tips

  • You get 50 Magic Write uses per month on the free plan — more than enough for weekly posts.
  • Take photos of your merchandising displays during store hours — real store photos outperform stock images for local social pages.
  • Consistency matters more than perfection — 2 posts per week, every week, beats 10 posts once a month.

Tool interfaces change — if Magic Write has moved, look for the star/AI icon in the left sidebar or the text editing toolbar.
